Default 82, Major engine problems

Last August I took the vette for an oil change, and did and engine flush. Well with in 30mins all the oil leaked out and the lower shaft bearings went, (I think). This is the thing, should I rebuild or replace? Rebuild I think would be more cost effective but at the same time I'd like to increase the HP. Any suggestions.
Also I am looking for a reputable shop in New Jersey
Thanks

Hey Joe, I blew a rod bearing 2 years ago in my 82CE.
Had the engine rebuilt since my block was perfect, added a mild cam, and
went .30 over on the heads. I am very pleased with the way the car runs.
The shop who did the work for me was High Marques up in Morristown.
If you want more info, send me an email, and I will give you the contact info.
Good luck...

Joe the two big questions are: how much time can you spend and how much money can you spend.
The engine isn't the only thing to overhaul. While its out hows the trans/clutch, A/C equipment let alone the cooling equipment.
My car was driven hard and parked outside. Replaced motor mounts, engine harness, headlight harness, core support (in progress), fan shroud, radiator, water pump and rebuild A/C system. Bubba changed a few things from stock. Also adding headers. It all adds to cost of overhaul.
You can replace with good parts and install them right but at your pace. Most shops will work as fast as possible. You get lots more experience with your hobby car and get to choose the performance for your needs. But then you may what to drive it more and don't have the time for repair work - plenty of shops love to work on corvettes. Plan on a year to overhaul yourself. Maybe a month or two for your local shark shop. If you have any specific ideas this forum will try to help.
Good luck. :seeya

You could do a engine rebuild and pick up 30 to 40 horses just with a few minor changes. I'd rebuild it personally I think you 'll be happier with a rebuild. It's got a cross-fire so you'll want to call Turbo-city at 714-639-4933 http://www.turbocity.com and ask for a catalog they have a number of upgrades for cross-fires!
