SEems a bit high to me althought for the most part nice looking ride. I would have to have the bodywork done though (lots of road rash/chips and a couple of cracks) and might even need paint. Hard to tell from the pics. If it needs paint, definately on the high side. Also, no interior pics. I Want to see those first also. (Although it states "Interior is original black vinyl, but showing wear on drivers seat seams. Dash has absolutely no cracks, door panels in great shape"). Tranny is probably an M21, not M20. M21 and M22 offered in 70 according to the Black Book.

On the flip side, it is sweet looking and LT1 is a great car. There were only 1287 made and how maybe were Laguna Gray don't know. Doesn't say how long the original motors been sitting.

If the original motor needs a rebuild and if the car needs some paint and interior work, if you want to get it back to like new/restored, you could end up spending another 5-10k depending on what you can do yourself. And that's without looking under the car.

Or, if you could get it for a decent price, you could just drive it and enjoy it probably. I fixate on things that don't look quite right though.

I'd offer $18K and see what happens (assuming you're serious). Those TT II's sure look good on the chrome bumper sharks!

If the owner's description of the car is honest and accurate... An original paint, original interior, matching numbers 1970 LT-1 with documentation for under $20,000? I'd say it's a steal! Plus a spare set of tires and "correct" engine thrown in... Where are these cars when I'm out looking for deals? :)

Seriously, I'd say it is a great buy if it is being honestly represented. From a resale standpoint, the color isn't that great (although it is a favorite of mine), but everything else looks good in the photos, but I'd need to make a personal inspection if I was seriously interested in purchasing it. Completely original paint is always a bonus in my opinion (even if the paint is showing its age a bit)... It means there is a nice, unhit body underneath. Original interiors are also hard to come by... As long as the wear isn't excessive.

Keep saving your money... A car like this would make a great first Corvette somewhere down the road. :)

As far as the transmission, the M-20 coupled with the 3.55 to 1 rear axle were the standard setup for the 1970 LT-1 so apparently the original owner of the car opted for this power team. An M-21 with a 3.70 to 1 rear axle was a no cost option and seems much more common... The M-20 was a better choice for the street and drag racing, the M-21 was the road course box. The heavy duty M-22 (and axle ratios ranging up to 4.56 to 1) was available with the ZR-1.

Two facts come into play: 1) The economy is soft and prices for collectable or desireable cars is steady to slightly off so prices are just about as affordable (relatively speaking) as they're going to get, and; 2) They quit building 1970 LT-1 Corvettes 33 years ago and there will be no more.

If this is a real LT-1 and the frame isn't rotted out, then I would consider it a screaming deal at under $20,000.

I would also be curious to find out about whether the starter, alternator (very expensive part) is part of the deal. From where I sit, I agree with Rowdy Rat that the car is a steal.

If this is the only problem he is alluding to, that's a non-issue for me (although it might be for someone else though). Personally, I wouldn't even worry about repairing it. Still, I'll say again that the only way to be sure about any car is to go and look at it.

A bit off topic, but I saw your post over on the NCRS Discussion Board. You received some great answers from several well respected members of the organization. I hope that at some point you decide to have the car judged... As was stated, it can be a very educational experience if you go into the process with the right attitude.

I've seen the photos that you posted of your car and it looks great... I bet it would score very well. I think that we're our own worst critics sometimes when it comes to these cars. We expect perfection in a mass produced piece of machinery... And it just wasn't so...

My car has several similar cracks. Superficial damage, even the obvious poor repair to the fiberglass at the left rear of my of car, didn't concern me. The car can be properly repaired. Frame damage and significant fiberglass damage indicating a hard life or major accident would be a drawback.

 

I like it and if I had the money and the room, I would definatley consider this one. I would have to try to talk him down some thought.

 

I looked at that cart myself when the ad came in. I personally think it is a good deal.

 

How ironic...I'm looking at a 70 LT1 Laguna Gray convertible this Saturday...a "three" pedal car! New paint tho the UA6 was painted over(suspicious...heh?), nice interior for $16k! Oh...did I mention it is non-numbers matching.

the story is the motor blew and a previous owner switched all LT1 engine components and the now owner has original block. He learned later...it's not the original block. He has this block as well. I'm curious what LT1 remnants are left.

Cosmetically, its got the LT1 hood (one stripe), tach and console plate. I'm interested in the car as a driver...with 270 days of sunshine at the beach...it's the perfect ride.

Anyway, curious what your views are re value. I've got pics but no capacity to post. Someone give me some of your MB.

It's amazing... Whenever I'm looking for a car, there doesn't seem to be anything nice available. When I'm not looking, I seem to run across more than I could ever hope to find.

hunt4cleanerair, Sounds like it might be a decent deal. I would definitely get some documentation on the car as that will help maintain future value. Since not many survive, even a NOM LT-1 will hold its value.

The car is fun to drive and a nice piece of history. Good luck.

I haven't thought to ask but will when I see the car. I thought it might be a couple of thousand high depending whether all the engine LT1 components are there.

Forgot to add for the Rowdy Rat...knew only you Bill and Dwayne could appreciate the pedal car gig vs something else I don't recall...oh yeah...really Corvettes have chrome bumpers!
