I was told that using the stock front left lift bracket on an L48 with a aluminum performer manifold could crack the manifold, so I should fabricate a bracket that bolts to the front side of the left head. Can anyone back this up or will it be ok to use the stock bracket. thanks for any help.
I've used it on mine without any issues. I just bought a plate that bolts to the manifold by the carb bolt holes to use to put it back in. I can't see any reason using the stock lift plate would cause the manifold to crack.
Good Luck
Should not be a problem. I lifted the L-48 and transmission, as a unit, out of my 1980 (stock aluminum manifold) using the stock lift brackets- no problems.
Wouldn't worry, but a carb lift plate can be found for $20 or so, and it may be worth having if you lift engines without lift plates. I have also seen them lifted with a pair of longer bolts in two intake bolt holes.
:iagree: with tshort. That is exactly how I pulled my L48 with the TH350 auto attached! Get some grade 8 bolts and washers to attach the chains to the accessory holes in the heads. Load leveler is a must have item. You can finesse that motor trans combo right out without scratching the fenders or anything else. :D
Have any more of engine lifting pics shot at different angles? If so pls post.
Sure, here's one below. As an added bonus you get to see my dad in the picture too. You can also go to my webpage and view these and more under the 383 Stroker Install pages. Enjoy.
