New starter question...

New starter question...
Some help from the electrical wizards please! I've got a new CVR mini starter mounted to the new engine(on a roll around) that I have had a few problems getting shimmed right to the new flexplate and would like to test it out before installing the engine. Does anyone see anything wrong with hooking it up to a battery and test to see if it will engage/dis-engage correctly? Was planning a simple set-up like this....
Negative side of starter to Negative side of battery
Positive side of starter to Remote Starter Switch to Positive side of battery
Possibly cause internal electrical damage to the starter doing this? I sure want to get those questions out of the way and not have to do it from underneath the vette.

I don't know of any remote starter switch that will take that kind of amperage.
should be:
Negative battery to starter ground
Positive battery to positive on solenoid
Positive battery to remote starter switch to activation terminal on solenoid

Thanks for the answers. I'm going to have to look at it in the morning before I go at it. The solenoid on this starter only has two connections where the stock starter has four. No documentation(wiring diagram) at all came with this CVR starter except for instructions for shimming it up. I have all the wires tagged on the car as to where they were hooked to the starter, but I haven't look at them in awhile since pulling the old engine. Any ideas with the following?

Thanks for the "Dummies doing Electronics" answers. Assuming the engine is again on the roll-around, then should I ground the negative battery terminal to the block to complete that circuit to the mounting surface? Common sense to me says that any extra ground is better than none.
Bob....
Just planning on doing a few quick turns of the engine to see if I have the starter shimmed right. Everything I can get out of the way that could cause problems ahead of installing this engine is just going to save me alot of aggravation.
