Default hooker sidepipe install

I read some of the archieved hooker sidepipe installation postings and noticed that members had to raise the car two feet off the ground to install the headers. Raising the wheels two feet looks to be kind of dangerous. Also, some seemed be required to bend the tubes to get them in. Has anyone been able to get them in without bending the tubes. If I get the jet coated headers, I really don't want to bend or scratch them to get them in. I have a 74 small block vert with no air. Please share your experiances.

Mine went in w/o bending any pipes...had to trim some fiberglass and rocker panel trim, but nothing serious....all in all pretty easy.
I jacked mine up as huigh as I could get the jack up, and as long as you use jack stands properly, its safe. I suggest jacking the front, and then the back, not oen side and then the othere. Thats what i did and had no probs.

I had the front of my 78' up on ramps then just had to jack up the right side a couple of inches (tire still on the ramp) to get the pipe in. No bending our cutting required. No problem with the left side.

Don't bend anything. I used a large floor jack and had to place blocks of wood between the front support and the jack. It was a little dangerous, but worked. Make sure you take as many precautions as possible. I also placed jack stands in 4 locations in addition to the floor jack.
Uncompressed, the front tires were at least 2' off the ground and I still had trouble. Good luck.

I didn't have to bend anything but I did have the front of the car about 2-3 feet off the ground to get them in. :yesnod:

I raised mine up and put on jack stands(highest). then took out the spark plugs, right side slides right in no Problem. then left side i took out the left motor mount, used a bottle jack, raised motor I think about 3 inches, slides right in, no problem. then reinstall or use new plugs and your rdy to go. no bending or beating on pipes on small blk car. Big blks might be a little bit differant. I am putin my Spiral Turbo Specialties inserts on tonight.

 Larry
