Just placed an order with Bowtie for a 200R4 trans. Anyone do this swap? I got hooked up with the "while I have the motor out" bug. I like to take the car on long road trips and wasn't to happy with 11mpg and the 3200rpm at 70mph. :auto:
I bet it will be great. I am thinking about doing it eventually. Let us know how it turns out I am very interested in costs difficulty of swap and results
I'm working on it right now. Check to see how it will bolt in in place of that TH400. Might need to change the yoke to get it to work with your driveshaft or something.
Bowtie is giving me everything needed to do the swap:
200R4 Trans (level 2)
2200 stall converter
77-81 shifter
TV made Ez (need to modify carb bracket)
TCC wiring switch
Speedo gears (drive gear 10, driven gear 27)
Yes, please keep us updated on how it goes. From my research Bowtie seems to be about the only place with everything you would need. I'd like to get a 200 myself. Can I ask how much the cost was for everything?
redwingevette,
I'm doing exactly the very same swap at the moment. TH350 is out & I'm fitting the 200 this weekend after a clean up & some paint underneath. Bowtie have been very helpful throughout & there's a guy on here who's also a great help for advice. The only problem I can see I'll have is in physically lifting the new tranny into place while lying underneath! The x-member ('81) might need to be modified to move the mount slightly, but there's enough "meat" on it to elongate the holes.
If you need, I can take some pictures for you of my swap out.
It's not a scary job. Take your time & enjoy!

OK, enough questions about the cost. Because you asked, $1630 delivered to Michigan. Steve has been really good to work with. We talked about the yoke and I beleive it is coming with the trans. If not, I will deal with it.

Wow that is CHEAPER than I expected....... Don't forget to take Pictures
Its gonna change your car for the better. Yur gonna like it. Might take some trial and error till you get it functioning just the way you like, but it will be well worth it. I ordered mine from BTO and requested that it be governed to automatic upshift WOT @ 5000 to 5500rpm. It actually was doing it at 4000 which was too low. I got a modified govenor from Bruce at PT and now the automatic upshift points are right in my selected range. I also added a shift kit from PT and it firmed it up real good. Its a no-brainer now, just put it in D and forget about it. I needed it that way cause the wife drives the car more than me. She aint in to all that manual shiftin stuff. So once you get it in and get yur clean bill of health from BTO, if you wanna doctor it up, talk to Bruce @PT. You can also catch him @ http://www.turbobuick.com in the trans talk section where he is a moderator. His call sign there is WE4.
I'd like to hear how the swap goes, too. That is the first mod that I am going to do to my 73. From what I have heard, there are no exhaust or parking brake issues to deal with, and the TH400 mount location is the same. Just have to use a later model corvette yoke. I am thinking of getting a complete 77-79 corvette driveshaft from a junkyard and freshening it up. Joe
I checked with Steve an yes I need the yoke; he missed putting on the bill. Add $175 to the price. I also asked him to add a new flex plate because mine has a few messed up teeth. Better to change it now then later. Biggedt problem now is getting time to start removing the old trans before the new one gets here.
