I need to change mine,so my first choice is to stay with a stock GM pump...
has anyone out there gone from a stock pump to something else say with a little more flow??? if so what are you using and how did it affect the temp. of the motor??? Thanks :chevy

I installed a factory pump for the car ... and a new 4 row radiator when I put the stroker in. I run 195 degrees normally and if in traffic it makes a squeek above 200. Maybe 205.
I have verified the readings with a Snap-On laser-trigger digital temp gauge. If anything my temp gauge is reading high.

i dealt with the heating last year and it runs a steady 210 in hot weather...i'm wondering though if i spend the extra cash for a higher flowing pump if it will bring the temp. down anymore??? there is only so much water you can push through the stat. so i am wondering if it is worth it?
i figured most of you would have done more than just a pump, so i guess i might not get an answer...is the edelbrock aluminum???

Before the ZL1 I had a 454 HO crate motor in my car. I had a lot of trouble keeping it from over heating in stop and go trafic during warm weather. When I replaced the OEM style pump with an Edelbrock Victor pump my over heating problems went away. I put over 100,000 miles on that pump and it is still going strong.

I'm using Stewart Stage 2 cast aluminum pump, it works for me...
The difference between stage 1 and stage 2 pump is, stage 2 pump doesn't have any bypass port in the pump casting and therfore has to use a special thermostat with 3 holes drilled in the thermostat to serve as bypass.

After my 77 engine build, I didn't want to put the 25yr old pump back on, so I just went with a cast iron Summit brand hi-flow. More GPM and better bearrings than stock and all accessories bolt right up.

Can't say the pump made some difference since I also had the radiator boiled and repaired to address the cooling system in its entirety. While the car didn't dangerously overheat, it would get a bit hotter than I was comforatble with. Stays right at 180-degrees now even when idling for long periods in the Texas summer heat.
