Default C4 guy needing help with C3 stuff....

Hey all. I have a C4 and therefore spend most of my time on the different C4 forums. I'm helping out a friend who has a beautiful '68 convertible, and have some questions.

1) for those who have swapped 6-speeds into their C3's, what are the most popular transmissions you use. Will a T56 fit? I am unfamiliar with the mounting points on the C3's, as well as the bellhousing to shifter dimensions.

2) He very much wants to install sidepipes on the car, and I was wondering what the best sources are for complete setups.

Thanks in advance, I'm sure I'll have more questions to add to this list.

I think a lot of the guys here are using the ROD transmission. I'm sure a few of them will chime in here shortly.

I can't think of anyone that has installed a six speed. Most everyone mods the C3 with the 700R4 or the 2004R
As for the sidepipe issue you'll have to let someone who has em answer that one.
Do a search in the C3 search section and you'll have more than enough to keep you busy.

i haven't done the 6-speed swap, although i'd like to. of those i've heard of, most have had at least some minor modifications to the trans tunnel. i think the richmond 6 is the popular one. i'm not sure if that is the T56. the crossmember will need major surgery to work, which shouldn't be that big a deal since it's going to get cut out anyway ;). the drive shaft will also have to be shorted and i believe a different yoke for the output shaft. also, there will be some clutch activtion issues with regard to the hydraulic clutch, if one is used. that i can't help you with, like much of this stuff, it's just things i *think* i remember from other threads and articles i've read.
the pipes can be had through ecklers and MAD, but i'd recommend calling hooker or hedman and getting a part # for your preference then order through summit or jegs. it will save you a couple hundred $$$.

Most 6-speed guys here have installed Richmonds, but there's also few here with T56. Here's a link to one of them:

The Richmond is a much easier install than the T56.
