Re: Bubble tail, and back up lights... (myyellowc3)
My car has both the lenses red. I have trouble seeing behind me so am changing back to the clear centers for the back up lights. Does anyone have trouble passing the yearly inspection with red lenses on the backups?
Re: Bubble tail, and back up lights... (adamdinat)
My plan was going to be cutting slots on the sides of the license plate (like C4 and C5) and make a custom backup light. If cutting scares the crap out of you, you could just put knew lenses below the bumper.

I eliminated them - totally.
When I put mine in my 70 I rewired the taillights so when the lights were turned on all 4 lights would light up, same as when the brakes were applied.
Also both lights on one side would light when turn signals were used. Hardest part was finding the correct socket to install where in the housing to accept an 1157 bulb.

I used 1969 Camaro Rally Sport reverse lights on the lower part of the bumper ---- looks great ! I'll e-mail you a picture since my computer locks up every time I try to post.......... Rick :chevy

Bubble tail and back up lights were on my vert when I purchased it. My vehicle passed the safety inspection I live in VA. Also ,the windows were tented with very dark window tint I still passed. Who knows maybe because it was a vette I imagine.
I'm with you..... I got a 72 coupe & don't like the bubble taillights at all on those years 68-73. I went with a working 4 taillight back end using all stock red lenses & sockets. Then I cut in some back ups underneath the bumpers like the '68 has. Looks "trick". :chevy
I agree. I have always thought that the stock tail lights were very nice. But the problem is that they want so much for new ones, and the bubble lights are more "cash friendly". I was playing with the idea of putting them on. But for right now I am stuck with the dull, cracked stock lights.
