I recently removed the hood to rebuild the cooling system and other stuff. While cleaning and repainting the hood's hinges, I noticed they were bent so I straightened them. I then realized that the scoring of the hood mount and fender mount areas won't be any good since I have changed the positioning of the hinges by straightening them. Soooooooo, how do I go about putting the hood back on and getting it to align right? I'm worried about the hood closing and not releasing due to misalignment. Thanks in advbance.
Re: Hood alignment, how to question. (Rick Church)
Hello Rick,
I used some playdoe putty to help align my hood. I covered the hood latches
and eased the hood down without fully closing it. I then looked at the impression left by the hood pins and adjusted to fit the pins into the latches.
I had to repeat it several times to get it right.
I use 2" tape over the latches and put a dab of grease on the pins. You then lower the hood until it touches the tape and check to see if the pins are in the middle of the latch. When they are you can safely close your hood. You also may want to remove the latches from the hood until you have the body lines even. When you have the hood where you want it you can then line up the latches. Good Luck, Craig :chevy :seeya
