Default Finished off the suspension for now...

Installed Bilstein Sport shocks all around, adjusted ride height so half-shafts are parallel with ground. Car is doing GREAT.

Very smooth riding with the bilstein sports, not rough at all. Makes 90 mph feel like 60mph. Need to get the car aligned, but other than that, had a blast on the way home.

Thanks to everyone who helped, esp BSeery, Mapman, Clutchdust, and most of all tsw71! Without his driveway, expertise, and food supply, I don't think I coulda made it through half of these jobs. Good luck with that hood, man. We really need to stop working on our cars and go for a caravan like the boys down in San Diego!

As far as my sig goes, I'm done with the stereo and suspension(almost), and have bigger dreams to go on to!

Feel free to IM me w/ questions. I'll probably take it out for a few more spirited drives this week.

Are you saying that the 550 pound spring don't ride rough? I would like to install the 460 pound spring but worry about a harsh ride and lowering the vechicle. I have a deep sump pan and don't want to scrap it up ever.

The Corvette vs a new cadillac, the new cadillac rides 10x softer.

VS a Z06, I'd say my corvette rides harder.

VS a Miata w/ perf street suspension, my Corvette is softer.

The 460s will be pretty damn smooth, and you shouldn't have a problem w/ your oil pan.

I should say though, the 300 lb front springs ride very very smooth compared to the 460s. the 460s are still rough, but I didn't think it was that bad. 550s not much worse than 460s.

I redid my 68 last spring and used 460# front springs, 330# rear springs, Bilstien shocks. Rides great, not too stiff. Only regret is that it raised the ride height quite a bit in front and I wished I had used a shorter spring or cut an inch off.

steve, since your half shafts are now parallell....the car sits lower..did you use long bolts to do this or is there another trick? i've been trying to lower the butt end of my vette...bought long bolts, and that only seem to drop it alittle..

You're welcome Steve  It's fun watching you turn into a gearhead as time goes by. Now you do most of the work yourself so I only need to sit back and hand you tools. Nice work!! Now don't forget to add a floorjack to your list of "planned" items in your sig ;) :D

My favorite part from yesterday..
Steve: Really, I have no option but to go up to 17s to get the handling I want...
Bill: No, 15s will do you just fine.
Tom: No, not for the kind of driving he does.

Obviously not verbatim, but I think you know me all too well!!

BTW, I'm not becoming a gearhead, just unleashing the gearhead within. I can't wait for Mark and Ronnie to be able to drive- that should be interesting as to what degree of gearheads they end up.

And I love that floor jack of yours- I'm gonna have to get that, *and* a couple blocks of wood for stepped lifting.

DD - I'll try not to drift too much.

Ndirish- I switched from the 460s to the 550s. My suggestion is that you chop 1" off the 460s. The 460s are 1.25" taller than the 550s, but other than that the same spring. I would have to say that my 550s are at the point where they're almost TOO low. They're not that bad, but a little bit of forgiveness would be nice.

Redsharkonboyds- I am running the 8" bolts from VB&P. I do not know why people say these bolts do not give enough thread. I actually RAISED the rise height to get my halfshafts parallel. Of course, when I installed the rear spring(last monday) I lowered it significantly in back. I do not recall how close to parallel my halfshafts were before. The stock bolt(in the garbage can) was probably about 6" long. I have tons of thread left on my 8" bolt, and no rubbing against the tire.

I ordered the shocks from Vettebrakes and Products. These parts are QUITE awesome.

My setup is absolutely a blast. The only thing holding it back is the tires/rims. I can't wait to upgrade. My car is 5-7 mph faster than it was before the shocks.
