Most of the catalogs sell the three pieces individually. Is there anyone who sells the whole thing as a unit or should I just replace the rag joint which is the only thing that's bad?
Yes, there is a place that sells the whole thing as a unit. I wish I could remember where I got mine. I first bought the individual pieces, but got the whole unit when I found I had almost torn through the rag joint with one of the fastening bolts. Total loss of steering is one thing I do NOT want to experience!
You want the flexible coupling assembly that bolts to the gear input shaft. If you have a 68 or early 69 C3, you want a GM part number 7806391. If you have a late 69 to 82 C3, you need a 7818568.
They both are available from GM dealers and from various Vette suppliers.
The difference between the two coupling assemblies is that the 68-69 has a full round serration that mates to a full round serration on the gear input shaft. The 69-82 has a flat on the gear input shaft and a mating flat on the coupling flange.
I really don't have a lot of confidence in the bolt-together kits.
part 563065 69-81 steering column coupler $39.95. I just replaced mine. To keep stock looking, I kept the original 12-point bolt from my old coupler to replace the new hex-head bolt that came with the new coupler.
The correct pinch bolt with a 7/16 -12-point head for the flexible coupling (as well as the detachable flange on the steering column) is GM #7807271. It is still available through GM dealers.

Re: I need to get a steering coupler (Jim Shea)
I bought the kit with just the rag joint and was gonna put it in, until I saw that it just doesn`t match up just right. When Jim Shea chimed and gave me a part # this is what I ordered and it went in nice and easy. Jim should know.
