i'm just curious, not planning on buying one or anything, just would like to know a little more. about how much do decent fuel cells go for? and what-if any-are the downsides to having one?
A 16 gallon fuel cell will run you about $120.00 plus the mounting kit. The advantage to the fuel cell is that it is filled with foam that helps keep your fuel from sloshing around which makes sure that threre is always fuel getting fed to the gas line.
My buddy runs one in his 514ci Mustang that is street driven. Other than the funny looks he gets while filling up at the gas station (he has to pop his trunk) and the smell of gas inside the car if you over fill the tank. It's a neat thing but not necessary at all for a street car...money could be better spent elsewhere.
Advantages, along with the previous post, I like to think you also get a much more safe tank against rupturing in an event of a rear end accident, You also get your pickup lines located at a nice low point with a much larger port size so you can run much larger fuel lines "for those who need alot of fuel" and I think when comparing cost, it's much cheaper to just get a new cell rather than drain the tank, clean it, cut a square bottom out, then weld in a new pickup point. But thats just my thoughts.
radwebster,
The term "FUEL CELL" is an over abused term, If your interested do a quick search on "fuel Safe" or "ATL" fuel cells and you will learn what a "REAL" fuel cell is and more important what it isn`t, and while you can probably buy a plastic can with foam inside for $120 an ATL or Fuel safe will cost more like $700 and up.
