1978 stereo/ cd player (st. Louis)
Does anyone know of a place to have one installed in St. Louis? What about adding some speakers? What is the best way to go about having this done?
Cheers
By the way, some of those classic "retrofit" stereos are junk.

I have found out the hard way that finding 4x6 speakers that fit in the front is kinda hard. I tried 4x6 mb quart, 4x6 apline plates, and I finally setteled on 4" round mb quart.
As for the rear. There is stock locations for 5x7 that some cars had if they had the option from the factory (Mine had those, except sombody took one of the brackets off). I wanted a bit more so I opted for a 6x9 using this set up.

Also I am putting a sub in the jack well.

I am also mounting an amp on the back wall standing up.
As for my dash, one of the previous owners installed a aftermarked deck so it was all cut up. I am replacing it with a pioneer head unit.
Hope this helps. I am in the middle of doing all this. So if you have any other questions let me know.

Chris - did you try some of the speakers that are supposed to fit from mid America or similar? I'll be needing new soon and was considering the Mid America route.

I really like the mb quart ones that I picked. They sound nice and were a reasionabile price.
I spent about $1000 CDN for all my stuff.
All you really have to remember is that make sure you get speakers that are about 4x6 oval (the plates don't fit as they are more like 5x7 square) and they can only be about 1.75" tall (at least on my 78).
The mb quart DKD-110 are not 4x6 but the are tall enough and will fit in the opening. And once the stock grill is on top you won't know the diffrence.
Although there is a bit of a price diffrence between the ones on mid america's site. Theres are about $22 US, and mine would be around $87 US. :D
