Default what temp switch for electro fan

i installed the permacool fan along with the summit radiator.i noticed a couple of things.the thermostat which is supposed to close at 170' makes at about 195-205(checked with infrared temp gun).WTF the engine almost boiled at that time.so for now i put in a simple toggle switch until i get something better.
what kind of adjustable switch can be recommended and at what temp range would be best for the engine? :steering:

Hi
Why do you think that 200 F is too much ?
Normally, the water thermostat is a 180 F, so no need to have the thermoswitch for the fan set any lower.
I'm running a 160 F water thermostat and a 95-90 C ( 205-195 F ) thermoswitch ( in the intake near the thermostat housing ) for the electric fan and find it OK.
During driving, the electrofan rarely comes on.
Temp never goes over 205 F.
Is this too hot for my 427 CI big block ?
Remember, the later C3 secondary fans only come on at 230 F ( or so ) and thats original GM setup.

gunther
the reason i'm asking is with the stock belt driven fan,the temp would rarely go above 160 to 170'.so the made me think which is the optimal temp for the engine.

Hi
The lowest water thermostat I found is the 160 F.
If your temp never went above this, you probably don't have any installed, hence constant cooling.
I think that 200 F is a good temp for a pressurized cooling system.
I don't know what's the negative effect of overcooling, do you ?
May be I should install a thermoswitch with a lower setting, may be 190-180 F
I just thought that the General must have had a reason to keep the temp at around 200 F ?
