Default painting your engine block?

Was reading one of my," how to assemble chevy small block," books last night and it strongly suggested painting surfaces of the block for various reasons ( help oil flow through lifter valley, prevent sluging, etc...etc..)
Basically i am looking for input from you engine builders on how to do this exactly right. Any type of enamels better then others? What about the heads? How do you guys clean before and after? As well as any general advice on the subject of pre assembly. Also, should be getting both the connecting rods/pistons and cylinder heads ( full valve job) back Saturday. Anyone pre assemble thier engine to make sure stuff fits as advertised???

You want to use Glyptal, made by General electrics and sold by Eastwood. You don't want to use normal engine enamel.

You also want to take the die grinder to the drainback holes in the heads and the block to smoothen and enlarge the oil return passages

Pre assembly and measuring is a wise thing to do
