Default Paint timing for restore project

I'm restoring my 75 coupe and have the engine/trans out, interior gutted and all chrome on exterior removed. I'm a days away from being done detailing the engine compartment and am now wondering if I should get the body painted before or after the engine is in. I'm especially interested in any issues with overspray and/or dust if I install the engine prior to paining the body.

Any thoughts on timing of the paint?

Do it the way they did it at St Louis. Paint the body before putting the motor in.

I agree with sb69. Shoot the paint now to avoid any issues of overspray on interior, engine bay, etc. If you paint now, you will not be so particular and weary of getting spray on these expensive components.

I agree, paint it now. The only argument is are you doing your engine install or somebody who may not be as careful as yourself? I do paint and bodywork for a living and anyone who takes thier time can properly mask off engine compartment and cover engine and drivetrain parts that could get overspray on them. After all, personally I would rather rub a little overspray off of chrome valve covers than re-paint the doghouse cause some jackbutt dropped a wrench on the fender?? Good luck either way and let us know how it goes.

Less masking and diss-assembly=less time=less money for paint job.
The only downside to consider is "how do I get the car to the shop" and how will he move it around once it's there?
Good Luck
