Default 4-sp shifter linkage question: Shorter throws

On the 3 levers which shift the gears on my Muncie, there are two holes to connect the shilfter linkage to. Usually, the linkage is connected to the outmost holes.

Now I wonder if it would be nice to connect the linkage to the inner holes in order to get shorter shift throws - of course with the disadvantage of less force to shift.

Has anyone got experience with that?

Thanx!
