. . .how do you get it to start? I accidently poured a bit too much gasoline down the carb when I was trying to start the engine, and now it won't start at all. On top of that during a recent rain storm a little water managed to get into the carb. It was odd I had the cover on the car but no hood or air cleaner. I thought it would be safe. Any ideas?
I dont know. Sometimes when I try to start my car when its cold I flood it. So I just hold down the gas pedal and turn the key and it roars up like a crazy beast.
Why were you pouring gas down the carb? If it were due to another problem, perhaps that problem is still the reason it won't start. If the problem is fouled (soaked) plugs, pull them and clean them off. Because most of the gas is now in your oil pan, I'd also recommend an oil change asap.

Re: If you flood your engine. . . (Teuffelhunde)
Depends how badly it's flooded and how hot the spark is! If HEI ignition then it should be as easy as holding the gas pedal to the floor while cranking (good battery?)
If it is a points-style distributor and a weak spark then pull the plugs and let things dry out.
DOH!!! I hate when that happens!!! :banghead: :banghead:
I usually have to pull the top off of the breather assy and hold open the butterfly of the choke to start mine. It takes a few turns on the engine, then let it run until it smoothes out then I remove the holder (screwdriver) and let the car run as normal and reinstall the breather top.
