I know that this post is gonna get arguments from both sides, but here it goes... I have a 70 Vette with a Quadrajet M4MC, not exactly what you would call "original equipment"... It's been giving me all kinda hell lately, loading up, flooding out and the like. So in the light of recent problems, and subsequent rebuilds, ( it is my daily driver after all... ), I'm gonna change over to the Holley 4150 on Wednesday.
My reasons are:
a) The M4MC isn't what came on the car
b) The aforementioned problems
c) The Holley 4150 is a good, tuneable, reliable carb
The only problem that I can see is that the Edelbrock Streetmaster intake that came on the car when I bought it has no visible means to hook up the intake mounted choke on the Holley, and I have no extra cash after the purchase to buy the electric choke conversion. Any insights?
You are going to spend at least 50.00 on parts to connect the throttle and fuel lines to the carb. DO NOT use rubber hose on top of the engine. Use a manual choke.
Cheaper would be to have your current carb. rebuilt and tuned by a mechanic that understands carbs.
