air cleaner value? please help...
i was advised that that might be a little steep...
so i went searching and easily found the front duct, side duct and the two flex ducts all for about $90 total...
however i can not find the actual air cleaner anywhere...
doc rebuild has a 1980 and a 1978 and both are $500...
i want to get to the bottom of this so that i am sure that i am asking a true and honest price for this set up...
is this air cleaner not available?
are they really this expensive?
am i asking too much or too little for this item...
please help...
thank you...

I just sold my air cleaner alone. 1979 Very nice condition for $75.00 + shipping. I also have the duct work that the buyer (Forum member) did not need. I had the complete setup for sale for $100.00 + shipping.
Hope this helps. You could probably get $150.00 for all of it but I think you will have it a while.

The $150 mentioned in a previous post seems more reasonable to me. Keep in mind value is a relative term, like the old saw - "one mans trash is another mans treasure."
good luck
*Edit*-Here is the rationale that I sent to SignGuy by e-mail. I stand by it.
On the air cleaner and accessories I based my estimate on salvage yard
prices as well as GM prices. The accordian hoses, and the side duct are
still available from GM. I have them. And your price is very close. The
front duct is harder to find as you have to do a secondary level (dealer
level rather than just GM depot) search and most parts people will not do
that for you. The air cleaner is discontinued but many yards have it. I
combine new and salvage prices to arrive at a total. GM prices on new parts
are discounted by me at ~50% (that is a typical margin). The same with
catalogue prices; although sometimes more than 50%. I guesstimate wear and
tear if possible through pics and at the far end out comes what I believe to
be a fair price. That is how I arrived at $300.00. I believe that price is
fair for both seller and buyer. I would not budge if I were you.
