I have replaced the pickup coil, the rotor, the cap, the capasictor and checked the control module, and I am still not getting any spark to the plugs. I have tried different wires and spark plugs in case they were faulty, but that did not matter. I checked the connection to the distributor and it has power. Is it possible that it is grounding somewhere? Any help here would be appreciated because I do not have a clue. I called a local Corvette shop and they did not seem to know either. Thanks in advance.
Re: Distributor still giving me problems... (Ki m Le)
I went to AutoZone and thy checked it on their diaagnostic machine. I do not know how accurate, or how detailed the test is though. It may be that I still need to replace it.
Background:
I had to do a complete engine rebuild because of severely fouling in most of the spark plugs and the thick black smoke out the tail pipe. It did run prior to the rebuild though.
This is an '82, but who ever had it before me took out the TBI and distributor and replaced it with a carb and a vacuum advance distributor. At some point in the past there was an engine fire and I am guessing that this was when the TBI was taken out.
I do know that I need to work on the carb as well, beause butterflys do not open when the accelarator is pressed. I am going to have to find the linkage that is missing from it.
