Heres what I did: Bought a set of reworked NON Vortec #416 Heads off E-Bay (365.00 and the guy still sells them there at that price...2.02/1.6 valves & 64 cc). They pull hard compared to my stock 882's and I did it alot cheaper than most of these guys are talking about.....no new push rods, intake, valve covers, rocker arms, etc. Make fun of me if ya want, but I'm DDin' 346HP and 409 ft/lbs. My $.02 worth
You can find deals on ebay ... also some thieving skunks. If you get ripped off on ebay ... you can pretty much forget ebay ACTUALLY helping you recover ... sames goes for paypal & squaretrade ... highly-marketed buyer protection is little more than fluff ... I KNOW! FYI, there's a used auto parts seller on ebay "scoobydacoreman"... RUN from that fraudulent conniving pos!
Before you go to ebay for the heads, give this guy a call. He owns a machine shop in the Charlotte, NC area. I bought my rebuilt vortec heads from him. He has a great reputation in the area and used to race in the local dirt track league. He also owns a C-2 vette and his partner has a fully restored 59? vette. His name is Tom and the shop is Precision Engine and Cylinder Head Service. Really good guy. I paid around $400 for the heads (with upgraded Z-28 springs), self aligning rocker arms and valve covers. The rockers and valve covers were used but in good shape. The price I paid was a show special, but you could probably come close. His number is 704-827-0032.
I bought my Carter 625 carb, corvette service manual, cd changer and many other items off ebay. Ebay is great as long as you are careful. Buy from people with lots of positive feedback and who have been selling for a while. You will see their powerselling rating. I have not been burned yet and have saved lots of money on ebay. Now that I say that I'll probably get burned soon
[QUOTE] You do need to supply centerbolt valve covers. I have a set you can have for $15.00 + shipping. They are stock Chevy units. The only issue, is one of them has a small nick in the top edge. But this won't cause leaking, etc.

I've finally decided and I'd like to buy the vavle covers. I already e-mailed you about pics, but if they'll fit, I'll take them.
I'm going to get the SD package that includes the rockers, manifold, gaskets, and bolts. But I'm getting the weaker springs, I figured that between the two packages there was a $170 difference and I found in a Jegs catalogue some springs for $60 that are .490" and figured that I probably won't get a cam with to much lift. Thanks for the help.

I agree with you in principle. But the aforementioned scumbag seller "scoobydacoreman" has a scam ... he does not post pos feedback unless and until he gets pos feedback ... that's azz-backwards and invalidates his score, rating & feedback content. And, to get a refund ... that probably wouldn't happen anyway ... he requires buyer to post positive feedback BEFORE he'll issue refund. He may have sold a lotta parts to satisfied customers ... but he covers the tracks of most of those that are not. I too have gotten great deals on ebay ... never a problem until recently ... got burned by scumbag. And I promise you ... ebay, paypal & squaretrade know full well of scumbag's practices & attitude ... they don't give a damn ... they're getting their cut. I can only take heart in knowing that one of these days he's gonna fool w/ the wrong sob. BTW, while scumbag successfully scammed me ... I've determined he is not exceptionally bright ... he simply hides (albeit boldy)behind a cybershroud ... I doubt he designed his scam procedure. He probably learned it from other ebay scammers ... he is not alone ... beware.
