I would have said counter-clockwise..........as I always use reference of RH/LH, as when I'm sitting in drivers seat. Setting timing BEFORE top dead center/advancing timing always moves the timing mark up on the balancer and toward the passenger side, and would think that mean engine is turning counter clockwise.
