I have a dilemma. I am restoring a 72 vette and want the sound and performance of headers but I don't no how to support the A/C compressor without the support that bolts onto the passenger side exhaust manifold.
Please Help. It gets hot in the summers in Miami
I cut back the factory bracket to clear the header tube, then measured the stock exaust manifold where the bolts went through and made spacers the same size
Do like Lyman Ring says, trim the factory bracket and add spacers. The factory bracket is sturdy. The aftermarket brackets are cheapo and prone to cracking. I have headers and A/C. I modified my factory bracket and used spacers. My compresor is off the car now but the bracket is still there. When I get home Ill take a pic and post it so you can see how its set up. Right now gotta run to work.
Snicker, I have a totally unfair advantage about those spacers....they are all over the place years ago from/on old Pontiac engines...used all over the place on accessories, when trimmed into a D shape for tube clearance, they work fine, it's what I"m using....course my junkbox is getting lo these days...
they are drilled for 3/8 bolts and are about an inch diameter, various lengths..steel blocks....
Heres the stock bracket installed with the headers. The bracket was shaved about a 1/2" or so just where the #2 tube passes under. I used the original bolts from the manifold and added old lug nuts to account for the difference in thickness between the stock manifold and header flange. Im sure theres a cleaner nicer way of doing it but you get the picture. I never was a good detailer.
