Everyone says flowmaster is the best for that classic muscle sound. To me Flwmaster is only good for camaros and mustangs. Corvettes have never been at the pitiful level of a mustang so why would we ever want a car to sound like one. Corvettes have more class and do not need to be heard from a mile down the road. I am asking if anyone knows of a muffler that has a mild sound without the restriction and without a pick-up truck sound
i see where you are coming from...why not just go with stock type exhaust?...i think ecklers sells a repro style exhaust...my vette ('74) has stock exhaust manifolds and stock exhaust and it's still loud...i am going with flowmasters (personal preference), when the restoration comes to that stage...
Check out Magnaflow mufflers web site. I installed a pair of these stainless steel mufflers on my vette. Straight through design very low restrictive. Deep sound at idle and lower RPM, very quiet at highway steady cruising speeds. They claim a good increase in HP over stock. http://www.magnaflow.com/01home.htm
Get Borla's. Nice low rumble, not even that loud at WOT. Plus they have a 1million mile warranty on them. Never have to get new mufflers again if ya don't want to. I will make a sound clip of my brother's C4 tomorrow. He has the borla Cat back, high flow cat, and Offroad front Y pipe through stock manifolds. Sound's nice.
i agree, flowmasters are for mustangs, IMO. dynomax superturbos or ultraflows are much more traditional sounding mufflers. they don't have that 'tuned' sound of many modern performance mufflers, or the 'hollow' sound of flowmaster. just pure chevy roar.
I have Flowmaster 40 series and they sound nothing like a mustang. They sound much better!
There are only about a thousand choices for exhaust systems to get the sound you want, the cool thing is most manufacturers' web sites have sound clips on them so you can get an idea of how the product sounds.
I've got Flows. I think my exhaust note is a little on the low, rumbly side. Not at all like a rustang. Having 468 cubes might have something to do with it.
Have em on my '76 Suburban...with headers, true duals, and a little cam that thing is low and mean at idle but roars at WOT. Nice combination with no resonation on the highway.

I have flowmaster 40 deltas and they sound nice on the vette, the Mustang(2003) is still stock, but I am probably going to go with Borla on that, as I don't like the way Flows sound on a stang.
I popped a dynomax racing bullet in my I-pipe in the z-28 with an LS1 engine. Cut off the stock muffler and it sounds wonderful. I like the systems and sound that dynomax has to offer. Apparently flowmasters aren't that great on flow (this is what I gather from LS1.Com) and many people seem to look down on them performance wise, but like them sound wise.

I had a 67 GT350 clone with flowmasters, and I hated the exhaust tone, too blarring at wide open.
I'm looking for chambered or after market muffelers for my recently purchased 70 454.
I personally would avoid flowmasters, until I heard then on a BB vette.
