How could I of our 1972 elkhart green(metallic) corvette is in its originall paint?
a few questions rise:
- are the bolt of the door originall painted?
- is there orginally a blank top coat on the paint?
- are there more ways to see or the paint is originall?
A local painter thought the paint wasn't originall, but Because I live in Holland most people know few about corvettes. And I know Corvette is bad in his finishing touch.
so who helps me out?
If the paint is base/Clear or (blank coated) I would have to say it's been painted. Try removing a marker light or a sill plate and see if the finish is different.
Not a lot of info there on your car - but first I would ask:
Have you looked and the trim tag to find and verify the original paint code.
It is on the drivers side hinge pillar and should have a code like : 946 .
My resto guide says acrylic lacquer for 72 - no clearcoat at all.
Often removing the aluminum rocker sill plates, grills, or marker lights
can reveal the original paint (if yours is not).
