Firday I took my vette to the dragstrip 1/8 mile. It was the first time I had ever been little lone ran. I ran 3 times and my best time was a 9.975 at 75.1. I did a little tuning and I'm gonna go back in a couple of weeks. I always see 1/4 mile times posted just curious about 1/8 mile times.
I love 1/8 mile drag racing...there is an 1/8 mile track near where i live and i had a big block Chevelle that i took there down there..i ran low 8s....what kills me are these guys with Mitsubishi eclipses or Subaru WRXs running same numbers!!! after i get my vette on the road which will be soon, i hope to take it there. i like to run in the low 9s or break into the 8s. who knows...its more of a 1/4 mile car with 3.55 gears.
Eighth mile times, 60ft's, etc are in my signature, with and without chemical enhancement. But just for a little comparison my bone stock 1997 Grand Prix GTP (supercharged 3.8) with 240hp and 280lb ft runs mid 9's in the eighth with a best of 9.475 with a 2.1 60ft.
We run 1/8 mile at Huntsville Al. In a 80 Buick Regal With a 327 and 175 nos at 7.12 at 98.67 Mph on Mickey Thompson E.T. streets . Haven't run the 69 427 there yet won't do much with 3.08 rears but sure is fun on the top end.
The 'accepted' NHRA factor for 1/8-mile racing is .64. In other words, a 'typical' car running 10.00 will run the 1/8 in 'approximately' 6.40 (10.00 x .64 = 6.40). To figure 1/4-mile from 1/8-mile, multiply your 1/8-mile by 1.562 (1 divided by .64 = 1.562) to find your 'typical' ET (keep in mind gearing, traction, etc., greatly effects these calculations). A 'typical' car running 9.975 will run the 1/4-mile in 15.58, I'm guessing at 90-92 MPH.....
We raced yesterday at the NTDBA race at Texas Raceway in Kennedale, best et of the day was 5.57 @ 124mph, not bad for all motor. It was super consistent until third round when I tried to cut the tree a little and had a .497 light...DOH !!
