Help sold my friend 76 vette and helping him replace rear end center section. Any tips on install--we've got it out and it's getting rebuilt, but those two bottom bolts on the pumpkin seem like they will not be fun to try to get back in!HELP!
Oh ya here's mine http://mywebpages.comcast.net/murfman/dusterside.jpg
 Help I know I'm a Mopar guy but hey I'm helping on the 76 vette. Someones gotta have some insight on putting center section back in! Now don't make me go to my Mopar site to get answers on fixin a vette! :flag
a couple of questions; Did you remove the differential with the crossmember or did you unbolt it from the cover?
Get a new front mount snubber bushing and new mounting bolts.
What is the shop doing to the rear end?Be sure to ask them if they put some RTV or sealant on the pinion threads or else you're going to get an oil leak there regardless if they installed a new pinion seal.
I remove them with the crossmember and assemble them back that way. You can use a floor jack to raise the whole thing and start the bolts to the crossmember, then install the front snubber and new bolt. I also bolt the front bracket on to the differential before raising it.
Mopars aren't too bad as long as you don't have to stop quick :D I grew up with a kid that had a nice 440 4 speed roadrunner

Re: Replacing rear end center section? (foundvettelifeisgood)
this can be done I have done it 5 times now with the cross member in palce what you got to do is clean the the bolts realy well and the threads in the pumkin as well then make sure you get them all started before you tighten any of them. it helps to have some realy stubby wrenches.
hope this helps.
Guys thanks for the bump and gtr1999 no diff was not removed with crossmember although I certainly can see the wisdom to this approach and will pass this on the owner of the vechicle in a link to this post and webpage! Good info also on sealant as I don't think he likes leaks on his nice garage floor!
And yes Mopar brakes SUCK! First upgrade I did (after 340 motor was/6) was to change out front 9 inch drums with some Front Disks!
