Default need help removing heatercore

  I'm trying to remove the heater core. Do I need to pull the dash in order to remove it? I know there are 2 clips on the dash to remove the dash, but do I need to pull the hole thing out and if so does the speedo and tach come out also? thanks for your help. Can't wait to get some picture of my vette on here.

 Thanks for everyones help. Got it out late last night . I deceided to pull the whole dash out to have it recovered in tweed, so it made it a lot easyer to get to. I also found were the water has been coming from that soaks my feet . Thanks again, Vincent

Just the passenger side dash pad and the center section with gauges are moved - not the drivers dash at all. First move the center section with the gauges out by removing the lower console trim pieces (one screw each) then about five more screws out to lean the center piece forward. Next your passenger pad has 3 screws along the door and three screws into the top dash pad. Be careful with the air vent ducting/plastic - just work it carefully loose and off with the pad.
Now the heater box is accessible. To R&R the core is more than I care to tackle here as I need to sleep tonight. Reccomend Chiltons repair manual for the rest of story. :seeya

I assume your '78 has AC, YES?
If not, it's a much easier job from the engnie compartment.

I suggest you search the archives, there are a LOT of HC articles there.
One from the recent threads http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=526043 has some good tips from fyne82.

It's not a hard job, but it is tedious and long.

Good Luck.

cardo0 has summarized things pretty well. I did this on my '71 last year. It's a big job that requires LOTS of patience. Good Luck! :banghead:

Hey vssii58!

I just did my heater core last week. It wasn't fun but do-able! Like a member already posted I had a past post which was given to me and it woked beautifully. I'm sure its in the achive if not let me know. The other members were right on with there listed advice. Only the right side of the dash..... and so on as posted. The Chiltons for myself was a little vague but useful. Its not a impossible job just a little time and patience which is a lot coming from me :D
Good luck... let me know if I can relay more advise.

I did mine last fall. I think I found the info on Corvettefaq.com. Not really all that hard at all.
