Ram Jet ZL1: Part number not yet available
Getting a hold of one of these may be more difficult than hitting your state lottery. GM Performance Parts is proud to bring back a legend, if only for a limited time. The Ram Jet ZL1 is the ’69 ZL1 of the new millennium, with its revised aluminum block, a solid roller cam, large oval port aluminum cylinder heads, and the Ram Jet fuel injection system...that’s right, Fuel Injection. The Ram Jet ZL1 is ‘454 cid with a street friendly 10.2:1 compression ratio that will idle all day long, unlike its predecessor of the late 60’s. If you want a Ram Jet ZL1 get in line now, GM Performance Parts will be producing a very limited 200 of these all-aluminum Rat Motors for sale on the open market and I would be willing to bet Jay Leno already has his eye on one...make that 199!

I would guesstimate the fully assembled engine weighs around 300#.
Aluminum small block (bare) weighs only 90 pounds. That would be my choice for aluminum.
Point taken. However if I recall Chuck Harmon is getting like 16-18MPG on the highway with his ROD 6 speed. That's with a high compression, solid flat tappet carbureted big block.
I suppose 20MPG is an accomplishment. However I didn't build my car to be an economical machine. My motor is putting out very close numbers to that motor but costs $17,000 less :) and weighs a little bit more. I can fill my gas tank up a heck of a lot of times with $17,000.
I guess I'm just disappointed with what could have been a re-release of a monster.

than $20k. Even if you can afford to buy a ZL-1 Camaro to put it in - it's still
not original. This is the only good reason I can think of to buy one.
Oh well - there's got to be at least 200 people around with that much cash to drop on a 500HP BB - so they should sell 'em OK.

$4,290,800
Four and a quarter+ million dollars on 200 engines. Maybe I should consider buying GM stock.
