Does anyone know how I can tell if the sport mirrors I just bought are actually from a corvette and not a caprice or some other Chevy? Did later C-3 vettes have remotes on both sides?
The black book shows RPO D35, Sport Mirrors, available for '77-'79. There's no mention of it for '80, I think that's because it became standard rather than optional. For '81 and '82, RPO DG7, "electric sport mirrors" was available. I believe the manually adjusted sport mirrors (as in 1980) were standard for '81-'82, and the remote electrics were the option. There were 33,868 Vettes with DG7.
All of the "electric" (e.g., remote-operated) sport mirrors I've seen on '81-'82 Vettes were on both sides of the car. There's a black plastic remote toggle switch for left/right operation adjacent to a chrome metal "joystick" control, both mounted in the center console plate.
As for whether they came from another Chevy, I don't know how to tell. I would be surprised if the base would align properly on any other door, just because of the rather unique shape of the C3 door. I'd be surprised if GM made a remote-control electric mirror head just for the Vette, but I would think the "stalk" would have to be unique to the Vette. If the angle were wrong, the head would not sit level.
