So last night me and my girlfriend are sitting in the vette with the tops off just relaxing. Then I started hearing this really annoying ticking sound. I couldn't tell where it was coming from, and it was really bugging me. Finally my girlfriend starts laughing and informs me that its just the clock ticking. She got a big kick out of it and thought I was a moron. :banghead:
Here is the interesting part... I know for a fact that the clock hasn't worked in over 12 years. It hasn't worked in the 5 months I owned the car and the previous owner (my uncle) said it never worked in the 12 years he owned it.
How could it just start working? I was planning a rebuild or replace. I haven't done anything that could mess with the clock. Last night I set the clock to the right time and it has kept perfect time so far, as if nothing was ever wrong.
If it's like the clock in my 74 and earlier it's actually a mechanical clock that is wound by electricity. The clock has a contact in it that pushes a lever connected to a spring when contact is made. This Mickey Mouse setup winds the clock in small increments. Actually I guess it's cool from a power saving standpoint but the problem is the contact corrode and won't energize the circuit that pushes the lever to wind the spring. It sounds like just the right amount of vibration or temperature or alignment of the planets occurred and you contact worked thereby winding the clock. Many clocks that are inoperative can be fixed by a shot of WD40 or other cleaner. You can also change the guts over to a quartz movement like I did when you get tired of taking the original clock apart to shoot it with cleaner. Now if you don't have the electro mechanical clock then I would suggest that your car is haunted or your girlfriend had a tape of a ticking clock just to get one over on you. :jester :lolg:
Give a little more detail about what you and the GF were doing... maybe that will help figure out how the clock got hot, bumped, etc... and started working?

I told you, we were relaxing... or at least I was. ;) :D
ROFL!!! Mine did the exact same thing this last summer!!!  I replaced a fuse for it, and it didn't work. A couple months later I started hearing this strange noise, and low and behold, the clock had came to life.
It was a sign to build a 406.... :blueangel: ....or something, I'm still trying to justify the expenditure to the..."other".
