My current headers run low, below the frame and oilpan at the collector attachment point. i am thinking of switching them out.
I have read the threads on the Dynomax and have seen they ride higher than the frame.
The other option is Sandersons, but they seem to be the block hugger style, which I am not sure would alter performance. My main concern is performace fit and ground clearance.
Any real life clearance #'s and brands. I want to go with ceramic coated for heat, etc.. Thick flange would be nice.
Vettefixr,
Very sharp H pipe. I have to do that to mine. Can you give me specifics on the exhaust system. Looks like we're using the same headers.
The system was built up over time (budgets suck). First I got a set of 2 1/2 inch stainless pipes to hook up to the stock exhaust manifolds from a local corvette shop (Corvette Paramedics in Vincentown). I had stock mufflers with this setup. Then last winter I went over to the Dynomax headers and had a shop fabricate the hookups. They used 2 1/2 inch aluminized steel because they said the stainless was too hard to bend and would kink. I think you have to have stainless mandrel bent in order for it to bend right. The crossover is a 2 1/4 inch pipe connected between the two headers . I later replaced the stock mufflers with a set of Dynomax Ultraflow polished stainless straight through mufflers (not show in these pics). I'm extremely happy with the setup. It flows well, is quiet at idle or cruise and opens up like a set of glaspacks when you punch it. The only change I may make down the road is to sent the header hookups to a place like Allen's and see if they can fabricate them in stainless. I really like the stainless because they are a one time fix. If you look at my rear pipes you would never realize that they are about 12 years old.
I have the coated Sandersons on my 406. I also have my own designed R&P. They gave me more room than I know what to do with. Also, no gaskets - just a little bead of Ultra Black. Sometimes things work out great! Dale
