Default What is this engine worth?

It is supposedly a ZZ4 with 4K miles on it. The guy said that it is complete except for the pully's and the carb. It has the aluminum heads so I am suspecting that it is a fast burn 385. He is asking $2K for it as is. I am going to go look at it on Thursday but figured I would run this by the experts first.

Thanks,
Ron

I don't know about the rest of the forum, but I just don't get a fuzzy feeling when a high performance engine is out of a car with 4000 miles on it. It's kind of like going to a used car lot and thinking about buying a 5.0 Rustang. Nah!!!! That *tang* wasn't dogged! I know a new engine is expensive, but at least you know what the previous owner did to it.... just build it.

Just a view... nothing else.

I just bought my fastburn ZZ4 for $4,400 but I didn't have to pay shipping.

$2,000 sounds really good for only 4K miles.....almost too good. And ya know what they say about things that sound too good to be true. Make sure its in good mechanical order.

I know what you guys are saying. Supposedly the reason it is out of the car is because this guy was rear ended and his car was totaled so he yanked the engine. I guess I will get a better view of it on Thursday.

Just becuase it has aluminum heads doesn't means it's "Fastburn" heads. It may be garden variety ZZ4, the come standard with L98 Corvette aluminum heads.

I also share the feeling that used performance engines make me queasy. If the engine will be torn down and rebuilt, that;s one thing. To simply install it and then find out there's a problem won't be fun.

Well I went an looked at the engine last night. As usual with all of the good feedback that you get on here they were right once again. For having only 4K on the engine it sure looked like it was rode hard and put away wet. I think that I am just going to pull my engine and rebuild it and I can will be able to get what I want and still keep the original engine in the vette. Thanks for all of the feedback.

There are plenty of great engines built with seasoned blocks out there for just a tad more than $2000. GrandSportC3 found a place that sells great engines; check with him. He bought the 383ci engine but I think the 350ci config was around $2400 with lots of go-fast goodies (plus S&H). Worth consideration and great value IMO. I would go that route if I had it to do again.
