Default How Much power gain with Cam/Intake/Headers?

Car is stock L-48, CR 8.5:1 with auto transmission. I am adding Hooker Ceramic Coated Headers with H-Pipe, Edelbrock Performer Intake, Comp Cam HE260, and re-curved distributor. Just wondering how much gain I can expect with this upgrade. Heads and Carb are original.

Thanks in advance.

that really is a hard question because every little part has the opportunity (sp?) to make such a large difference.... the heads and camshaft are the heart and soul of the engine. if you have a dynamite cam/head combo, and it works in sync well, then you could have some very large power gains. if you have good stock heads and you chose a cam that does not match the heads very well... you could have low power gains. that aside, ive seen someone do a swap that was very similair to yours and gain ~60 hp. good luck and let us know how it turns out

I really think you should consider doing the heads while you are at it for some serious performance gains

:iagree: Heads make a very big difference in HP :yesnod: . Headers & intake is moving in the right direction of allowing more air in & out of your engine though :) .

Edit: You can also consider the packages offered by Edelbrock, Holley, etc., and get the pieces when you can. This way you know the parts will work with each other .

Day & night. A good start to getting your car running like a Corvette.
W/ Dynomax coated headers. About 280HP or over 75 on your poll. Near 300 HP w/ larger valves. Over 300 w/ better heads.

I realize that this is not going to give me the power I am looking for. Therefore, a 383 is already in conception (thanks to this forum :mad )... I bought this car for 2 reasons: 1. to go fast (and do it in style) 2. to learn about the good ole muscle cars.

I can easily drop afew grand into the motor and have someone build me a 500 hp car....but that doesn't take care of #2.

This upgrade would allow me to actually learn. WHY? I don't know... Maybe, I need to be like the rest of my friends and buy 1.7L Hondas... Hell NO. :nono:

I love this car, want to learn more about it, and THEN make it suit my needs
:chevy

Thanks to this Forum, I am having the time of my life...

That's 30-45 at the flywheel. At the rear wheels, you may see 15-20. Gotta account for losses once it hits the trans...

B4 I put my heads on this winter, I was DeskDynoing 275HP (as compared to 180, U can do the math). I agree w/Ganey. BTW: somebody else here on the Forum did the DDing for me, I didnt do it myself just to brag. I'm stating facts here. GOOD LUCK! C my Signature, quite similar to what you want to do........... :yesnod:

Going with the headers and h-pipe is a good start, like Ganey I would more opt for the Dynomax if cc is what you want, the Hooker are very expensive up here in comparison. If you are looking for the high hp/tq why would you change cams and intake now when you will only have to pull the engine and essentially rebuild it in its entirety ie, rods, heads, pistons, carb or FI, cam, crank etc. You are going to be putting a lot of $ into it twice ie. pulling the engine up here runs on avg. $800. Also a couple of thousand cdn will not get you the engine you desire either, think more in the nature of $5000 plus easily. Ask Mark or Jack about their ZZ4 engines or look into the fastburn 385 for an idea of costs up here. Don't be surprised if you start seeing #'s in excess of $8000 cdn when all is said and done. As many have said before on here, horsepower is expensive, how much can you afford to spend.

:iagree:

I reliaze that power costs money. But I am only spending 430 Canadian for cam and intake.... :D Headers I can keep for later upgrades too. For about 500 dollars I am going to have the greatest 'vacation' this year. :yesnod:

Actually looking forward to taking all apart and putting back together. Unfortunately (fortunately??) everything works well on the car, and I need to break something to fix it. Call it a bonding thing....
