I posted this over in engine mods, and since I'm going to be tearing the engine down, I'd appreciate any advice from you guys about stock 2bolt sb400 parts(crank, rods, pistons) necessary to support 500hp/torque and 6500rpms. Thanks!
I run a 4 bolt, but I hear 2 bolts are said to be even stronger in the web area.
The stock pistons were cast, and aren't worth a hill of beans for power.
The assembly I got was a Scat Series 9000 crank,5.7" Scat rods,TRW flattops, rings, bearings, flexplate and balancer. All balanced for under a grand.
I can tell you there's no vibration from the engine, even at 6500 rpms, smooth as can be,and I am pushing 500hp easy.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Re: Stock sb400 strength? (The Money Pit)
If you want 500 HP a forgerd crank and forged rods are a good bet but if you want to save money you can go the Scat 9000 route, I would not put anyting less in a 406 :D

The guy I baught my block from had 3 other 400 blocks sitting on the garage floor next to his race Camero. He turns 7200 rpms at the track and runs nothing but Scat 9000 cranks. Never has had a problem.
