Default Bubble Light Con. Kit - HELP

I've been going off of this: http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/BubbleLightInstall.htm

And I'm to the part where the spacers need to be removed.

And as you can see, mine have been painted over and I'm having a little trouble removing the nuts shown. Do they make a special socket that will fit over it?
I think after I remove these I need to cut the plasctic tubes down so the new mounting plate will be flush on it? I think that's what he means from the installation post. Thanks

Those nuts are welded on, you need to get a 7/16" socket or wrench on the bolts from the back side. A real exercise in contorting. Those plastic plugs snap in you might be able to just snap them out, but as they are original they are probably brittle. How I know this is I'm just putting the urethane bumper back on the rear of my 78 and the bolts for the bulb frames has to be easier then the upper retainer bolts which are a real PITA. Good luck
P.S. I just looked at the link you had, he's talking about just pulling those plastic spacers out with a pliers using a "gentle" left-right motion.

Ok... I think I have it figured out now. I went and bought one of those "Gateor" sockets, the one with the pins in it that fit to whatever shape you place it over, and it fit on the nuts really well, but I just ended up starting to round the nuts off. I wanted to take that mounting plate off so I could cut the plastic stand-off tubes down so the new lens mounting plate would fit with no play. I figured out a new way without having to remove the metal plate that is stuck, as shown in my pic above. I bought one of those handheld roto tools... and will use on of the bits to just the tubes off at the right length. I didn't want to pop them out because as Schott78 said they may be brittle and I'll just end up creating more problems.

So with installing one of these kits it looks like this is the hardest part of it all.

I wrote the document on the bubble light install, it was on an 81' so it's not the exact same situation that you are experiencing. However, those plasic standoffs are available through Zip(I think) if you mess them up. If you have any other questions about the kit, let me know. The only problems I have had is that the new harnesses that replace the backup ones are not the greatest and the bulbs they supplied didn't fit real well. New bulbs and some bulb grease and all is well.
