The cheap lenses fit up to 73 - then they went to a different bulb and housing setup.
For the later years, you need to buy a conversion kit. I'm not sure of the price
for the conversion kit.
Look at Paul's picture - he has four taillights, wired to work together in pairs.
I want backup lights, though. How many have backups installed, too. And how'd you do it ?

With the urethane bumper in 1973 came rear lens units: the lens and the bulb socket housing are one piece. Prior to 1973 the lens was separate. That is what you have linked to. So for your 1979 you need the one-piece unit such as seen in the backup unit below if you go stock four lamps.
Or the bubble kit comes with the bulb socket housings to replace the stock units if you go in that direction. So the GM version is discarded.
Here is the bubble setup on my 1979. I used them for one season then converted to four stock tail/brake. The bubble wiring was retained for that installation.

Re: 4 taillamp conversion kit (Ganey)
I can pass on the bubble conversions, but I due plan to convert my center two from backup whites with red reflectors to solid reds like the outside two. Wire them to all work together for brakes and have two lights per side flashing for turn signal.
I did it the cheap way. I got 2 lamp fittings (they can be bought from parts houses as a rear lamp harness repair kit), just spliced them in and used 4 stock lenses. You might need a stronger flasher. It was cheap and it works. Who needs back up lights (although I have been fined for it already)
