Which Zaino?
My car was treated by the previous owner to an Earl Sheib paint job. I'm interested in the Zaino treatment for the paint (dark color and it needs to look better!)
I'm convinced to try the clay bar cleaning method. But which Zaino polish to use on Sheib paint? I see that Z2 is for Clear Coat and Z3 is for regular paint. I'm assuming it is regular paint but ???? HELP! :D

Re: Which Zaino? (eleven79)
tell me about that scheibb paint job....how does it look???
Acceptable but I'll never win a show! The hood, tops, and rear deck look good and have nice metallic enhanced paint. Good shine too so it's probably polyurethane paint. I doubt it is coated.
It does have a couple of problems however: First even though the OEM color was dark brown, they did not paint the door jambs. So the new color is stark contrast to the inside of the doors where it is real chocolate brown with no metallic or polyurethane enhancement. Second, they did a crappy job on the lower sides of the car. Typical Shcieb fashion they installed (and I'm sure charged well for!) rubber side strips. One of which isn't even form fitted to the curve of the door too well, so I'm sure it will come loose some day and take paint off the door with it.
Under these side moldings the paint is full of orange peel. They did a great job on the hood and the rest of the TOP part of the car ... but the bottom half below the centerline of the car sucks. That's why I want to see what Zaino will do to brighten things up. The reason for the question is that I was on their website and yest there is a bunch of info there ... but I don't know which polish to buy(for clear coat or for regular paint)\
I was hoping that somebody was familiar with Sheib's work enough to guide me here. As stated above though, I do not think it is coated so I'll probably get the OTHER option unless somebody here knows what I need to.
I know this doesn't answer your question but WOW! Earl Sheib. I didn't know they were still in business anywhere. They haven't been in this area for probably 20 - 30 years. It's just strange to hear the name again.
Get some mildly abrasive polish like 3M's swirl mark remover and apply it to a section of your car. If, while you're polishing, the cloth ends up the same color as a paint, you have "regular" paint. If you just see polish, you're clearcoated.
I polished my friend's dark blue 79 vette a long time ago, and my white towel ended up blue when I was done.

Yea that otta work. I have some polishing compound that I used on my white car (daily driver) to try making it presentable. Also some Turtle wax or something. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

:iagree: I have used both 3M fine cut and Meguiars polish and they both work for turning your rag the color of your car if there is no clear coat on the car. I stick with Zaino for the vette, I was amazed at how well it worked.
I had Scheib do a car here in CA.... Yes, they are still around. Heavy handed but they do a decent job for non show cars.
What I found is that with the money you saved going to Scheib's, pay for a "color sand". Works well. Basically it uses abrasive (machined) and then goes and polishes it. It works well. It will remove alot of the orange peel and especially on the lower half where you said the orange peel is. They do paint everything.. but you should be able to do this. You should be able to call a good paint shop in the area to see if there is someone they would recomend.
I ahve actually done this to the 'vettes (non Scheib) paint as well, and it took out everything, including all swirl marks (from me) and defects. I paid $150 for them to do the Honda.... Paid $250 to do the vette, but we also took care of minor imperfections as well.
