Pulled on the interior door handle and the BACK of the armrest came lose, not the front (as is typical).
Looks like that the previous owner used only 1 "oversized" screw in the rear postion screw hole, and didn't put one in the middle position (just under the door lock ****). Now, the middle position hole on the metal door panel appears to be fine and still has the metal spacer frame around it, BUT the rear postion hole (in the door panel) is enlarged since an oversized screw was used to hold it in place. Needles to say, the hole is stretched, and the prior fix did not work.
I am going to order a set of stock spec. screws, and while one may work in the middle hole, the stretched out hole most likely will not thread. Is there something I can place in the hole to make it threadable again?
JBWeld a nut behind the enlarged hole, then use the sized fastener, prefereably a machine bolt, small gauge, not too long. The expoxy should hold the nut in place long enough to establish torque to make er tight.
Mine are the same way. The remedy I used is "U" or "J" nuts. These are the sheetmetal bent over type of nuts that are used on cars all over the place. Most local hardware stores have very large ones, with machine thread or sheet metal thread. Just slide them around the sheet metal and align the holes. You can tighten the screws as hard as you can with no problem. I wasn't worried about orginality, as I don't know of shows that make you pull door panels. :smash: :smash: :hurray:
