Default Power Window Clunks. How to Adjust Out

Rebuilt both window regulators. A fairly easy job. The hardest part was getting the door panels off.

I have a "clunk " when raising the windows on both sides. It was there before I started and I was hoping to make it go away. (This is an improvement over usual work where these types of things develop due to the repair).

The clunk is caused by the u bar that the window bolts onto. When coming back up it hits the spring on the regulator. If I pull on the regulator ever so slightly it misses and no noise.

I can't figure out how to adjust this out. Any ideas.

Bob

Possibly the power motor bracket. A replacement bracket is sold. When the bracket broke on mine one could see the door panel move from the tq. of the PW motor. Also possible alaignment.

Ganey,

Which bracket are you referring to. The bracket that the motor and regulator are on appear ok. I can see flex in the door metal as it approaches the bottom of the run.

Bob

Sounds like the little bracket. See MAD No. 604-457 for LH or 604-458 for RH.

These windows are a pain to adjust, and expect to spend hours on it to get it just so. I replaced weatherstripping; followed manufacturers procedure to adjust, and still didled forever. You get it just right; put the door panel back on and it alters the way it goes up......I have restored a whole car and found those damn windows the most irritating, frustrating thing I have done. Good luck! :mad :mad :mad :mad :smash: :mad :mad :smash: :)

Mine was clunking when I got the car. We put some shims on the bottom of the track where it's mounted and moved the track out far enough that it didn't hit any more.

Clinton,

I'm assuming that when you say you shimmed the track, you are referring to the tracks that the window rollers travel in.

Hi Bob,
Yes, that would be the track. We stuck some washers or something as spaces in there to move the track out more. Of course doing this also moves the glass where it'll be when it's up, but it all worked out really well for me.

Thanks Stingray. I checked it out last night. Turns out that it is hitting the bolt that hold the motor to the regulator frame. Same concept though. I'll play with it tonight.

YEP... :yesnod: :yesnod: Had to do this exact thing also and it worked. My window was getting stuck at the bottom cause the track on the glass had jammed itself against the top motor mounting bolt. Worked good for me too!!!! Good tip!!!
