I've noticed that in the desciptions of many of your cars, there is something
called an "H" pipe. I've figured out what they look like from some of the
adds in the various magazines I subscribe to but I would really like to know
what exactly they do for performance? Educate me , please.
The H pipe helps increase torque, cuts down some of the drooning in the exhuast and make both sides of the exhaust available to the other side.
This is a shot of my H pipe.
I got 2.5 aluminized pipes with an H-pipe fully welded and sealed (no tips, just down turned) for 300.00$ Tips were another 50.00$ which I plan to get soon..700.00$ and it better be mandrel bent and fully custom. :bs
I have the Mid America 2.5" dual set up on my 1979 that I am willing to sell and it has the H pipe installed from a local shop. Oh yeah, it is fully welded with Flowmasters 40 series. I did cut it to drop my rear diff though.
Why? All it does for certain is mellow out the exhaust note. I haven't seen dyno proof that a balance pipe makes more power. I like my exhaust loud, don't have a balance pipe. Furthermore, just putting in a bal;ance pipe won't do anything, you have to position it at a point where there's a "knot" in the longitudinal wave.
Man it seems the more I read on this whole topic the more confused I get. I have an 80 that I want to get duals on and get rid of the converter. I was going to just have the pipes run straight back from the original headers (for now) to Flowmaster 50's and then tips out the back. Will this work? Will there be clearance issues if the pipes run under (closer to the ground) the crossmember, or should I set it up like the MAD systems and run both pipes down the pass side? And now - what about an H pipe? Do I need one, and if so where would it go?
Thanks

Is there one or two holes in your crossmember? If it has 2, I am moving to OKC in mid-June, and I would sell you my set up if you are interested. It's a Mid America kit with Flowmasters on it-sounds really nice-also has the H pipe.
Mike,
Looks like no holes, just an indentation where the cat meets the front "Y" and then the rear "Y" takes off from the Cat to the exhaust.
Thanks for the offer, but I want to get this done soon, like next week - found a guy in town that will do all the pipes and the Flowmasters for $400.
BTW - you an AWO?
Yea your right, i just looked at the MAD web site and up to the 79 it looks like two holes available in the cross member, and mine is just a indentation around the center. Oh well like you said Im getting a pretty good deal.
No Im not a AWO, a WD - whats a 2M tech?
