Tire size- 245 fronts 255 rears?
I am going to get larger rubber for my vette, I have heard of 255-60 BFG Radial T\As all around, but has anyone used 245-60 on the fronts and 255-60s on the back? Was wondering if it would help in the front for clearance. :flag

Before I switched to the TT II's 17's, I was running 235's in the front and 255's in the rear.... It worked well and looked good.

Before I went to 16, I (actually previous owner) had 225-70-15 on the front and 275-60-15 on the rear. There are some guys here using 295-60-15's on the rear.

I don't know about 71C3 but my 80C3 has 255/15/60 BF Goodrich all around on 8 inch wide aluminum C3 wheels without any problems. Clearance in rear is about 3/4 inch.

Tom:
245 fronts and 255 rears would work fine. I'm running 215/70/15s up front and 28x11.5x15s (whatever that works out to be) out back.
For handling purposes my setup is not so great, ideally you want a bigger size tire up front....but for drag racing that's less rubber I have to push down the track.

I went with the 245's all around so that I could rotate them yearly. I was going to put 255's on the rear but the tire store talked me out of that just for rotation purposes. Works fine for cruising but at the strip these T/A's are not good at all. I just can't get them to hook up and even spin them from 3rd to 4th.

:iagree: I've got 255/50's on the front and 325/50's on the rear. Handles real good shoving it in and out of the garage. :lolg:

Thanks to all for the info and pictures, my wheels are the stock ralleys, 8" wide. I am sure that it will look much tougher with the bigger meats our back, the extra traction should be welcome too! Right now the rear tires just spin like a top. Can't wait for this S#%$ A@$ Michigan weather to go away!

I went with 235/60s on the front & 295/50s on the back. I moved the E-brake brackets for clearance on the rear meats just to be safe. FWIW, I liked the way the 235s looked in the front fenders better than the 245s- tire shop agreed, but that's just personal preference.
Oh yea, my sig pic has my old tires so you can't tell much from that.

Tom, I rode that red hood around this weekend for over 250 miles. Sunday we had 38 vettes cruising. More than once I was asked if I had a BB vette.
I have 255 all around too with no probs.

i'm getting ready to put on my new wheels and am thinking about 235/60's on the front and 255/60's on the back.

Re: Tire size- 245 fronts 255 rears? (corvettemaster)
255/60R15 will work on all four corners. It was an option in 1980 as an upgrade from the 225/70R15 stock skinnys. I currently have 245/60R15 all around and the 255/60R15's are on the way, Going to put them on all around. Have to recalibrate my speedo as well ( only cause of gear change). But you should not experience any trouble. In fact in "Vette" magazines July 2000 issue that had an article on this. They did 255/60R15 upfront and 275/60R15 out back. They did modify the trailing arm for clearance though. They did this on a 76 stingray with factory rally wheels. You'll be fine with what your looking at doing though.
