Power windows
So what is the common problem with the power windows.
My driver side window just stopped working. Went and started it and the window wouldnt roll down. The passenger side works fine. just the driverside. the switches look new as does the wiring there. When I get sometime I am gonna look and see if a wire came off the motor inside the door.
probably the motor then, pull the door panel and make sure it's getting voltage and has a good connection.
When my window quit working it was the regulator that went, the motor was still working, that's why I asked if you could hear it. Of course 6 months after I got that fixed the motor did die
Just did mine about an hour ago, it worked last night and just stopped working (drivers side) . Took the kick panel off and the door panel off there is a plate on the bottom off the door to remove also. When you have the kick panel off reach up and you will feel the two wires that go between the body and the door they run through the rubber boot. When i pulled these wires the brown one was broken from flexing for 30 years off the door opening and closing. I ran a new wire through and spliced it in . How i found out it was broken there was to hold the window switch in the down position and grab the rubber boot and wiggle it back and forth and the window worked intermediatly. Good luck DAVE :hurray:
Guru, hate to see yo waste your money on a aftermarket manual of any type....better off spend the 100 bux and buy the original GM manuals...there are two from this ear covering your car year....but also others in the lineup for that year.....
second off....we need talk offline...I installed new power windows in my car, it was manual...mine is a '72...I can tell you all about how they work/don't work....but it's lengthly....
When you hit the window switch does your ampmeter show a discharge? (with engine off, key on). If it does your wiring is probably good and the window regulator has a mechanical problem. If the gauge doesnt move then electrical problem.

Re: Power windows (Guru_4_hire)
OK I got in there further and If I get my ear up against the motor I can hear it making a faint noise almost a ticking. Does this sound like the regulator mentioned above?
