personally, not a big fan of holley. if hood clearance (i.e. stock appearance) is an issue, i think the performer is about the highest you can go without interferance. if not, the performer RPM and RPM air gap are supposed to be the best street manifold for the buck, according to many of the people i've heard running them. i like my q-jet just fine but the edlebrock is also supposed to be pretty good. of course, millions of people love holleys, and you know what they say, millions can't be wrong. :skep:

Take a look at the new Edelbrocks if you need to change.

I like the stock air cleaner setup on my Corvette, and therefore can not change to a Holley (they won't fit under stock air cleaners).
Also, I can't run EGR with the Holley as the carb is in the way of the EGR valve.
Get a rebuilt / clone Q-Jet or the new Edelbrock (I think they are called AVS or something like that, they have black hardware on them).

Decide if you want a single plane or dual plane manny first. Well, actualy decide were you want your "sweet" power band to be first. Dual planes have more torque down low i think while single planes have more power up top or mid range or something like that. The point is you have to decide were you want your power band t be and then buy ALL your performance enhancements accordingly. Not only must the carb match the manifold but the cam as well. Many performance manufactures offer packages with different power bands to suit various needs!

I ditched my carbs forever - went to the Holley Commander 950 MPFI system.
I'll never go back...........

I run a Holley #4175 and like it. I did have to add a spacer on top the carb for the aircleaner to fit but with the Edelbrock #2101 manifold, there is still plenty of room.

The first step is knowing what you want. For me it was "area under the curve" AKA "flat torque" for serious street driving and maybe a little autocross. It also makes the motor less picky about what gear you're in if you're running a manual.

When I got Desktop Dyno and started playing with combos the power band I wanted was made by a totally differant combo than I had origionally planned on.

The first step is to figure out what you want it to do, then it's easy to find out what will do it. Let the board know what you're going for and your budget and you'll get a ton of great feedback.

the car's current carb is not stock. manifold could have been changed as well. somewhere along the line a holley carb was added-its an older one and is worn out. when the engine is hot it wont idle while in drive. im looking for a new carb and manifold that will perform well on the street, and hold up to some high speed abuse, while not costing much. the edelbrok performer rpm manifold sounds good from what you guys are telling me. what about carbs? edelbrock avs? holley street avenger?

Bang for the buck I'd go for a remanufactured Edelbrock from Summitracing.com

Here's a direct link http://store.summitracing.com/produc...earchtype=ecat

Not much choice for sizes, 600 or 750 but hard to beat the price and from what I understand they are easy to setup and maintain. Although the new AVS series is supposed to take it a step further, but at the cost of a few extra $$$.
