I think the tranny in my 75 is shot. I am looking for a 700R4 to install. What do I need to get in addition to the tranny? Does anyone have instructions? Any particular years to keep away from or are all 700R4s the same? Any help would be appreciated.
Re: How difficult is it to install a 700R4? (Road Racer)
My understanding is the '88 and newer 700R4's are the best for durability. Bow-Tie overdrives at http://www.700r4.com sell a complete conversion kit that is hard to beat on price and quality.
Just a reminder, the trans must be 'tuned' once you get it installed. The TVS adjustment and accompanying pressure setting (you need the pressure gauge/hose to set) are critical to longevity. I set my 700R4 up with 85psi at idle. It generates about 155psi under heavy load. Their new 'trick' TVS setup also makes dialing in the shift points and behavior a dream. Check them out! :seeya
