Do I need to adjust anything?
Is this a bad idea?
Alternate sugestions are welcome and appreciated.

Always remember "Don't throw anything away!" You never know when you will need it.

Just take it all off. Remove the A.I.R. pipes from the exhaust manifolds too. When you do, there are little extension tubes to take out of the manifolds as well, don't forget them. Then just use pipe plugs with some anti-seize to plug the holes in the exhaust manifold.
No adjustments need to be made.
If you want, to sell the parts let me know. I am looking for a working A.I.R. pump from a L-48 1980, but mostly need the bracket that holds it to the motor, mine broke.

No Oklahoma has no emission requirements - I guess the wind blows so damn much here were breathing New Mexico air anyway! :)
As far as taking everything off - well I was trying to avoid all that for now, I was just wanting to remove the belt from the AIR pump and go from there - probably have the engine rebuilt this winter and have everything taken off then.
So for now off comes the belt and hopefully the popping/cracking sounds from the exhaust go away.
Thanks,
Steve
