Has anyone on the forum made a Pro Street C3 Corvette? If you do, you would have to back half it right? Would you loose interior space? How much?
Also If you but fender flares on it, and make the tires so they are not under the body, but flush with it or stick out 1/2 an inch or so, then how big of a Tire can one fit into there? 28inches, 29, 30?
I saw a pro-streeted C3 a couple of years ago and it had at least 30" tall tires, perhaps even 33's. It used a narrowed (very narrowed) 9" and the 14's treads were entirely inside the fenders. I didn't notice if the tubs intruded into the interior or not but, except for it's roll cage, later model seats, and guages, I don't recall that the passenger compartment was different from stock. As a side note, the car had been built strickly for show and I suspect that it wasn't nearly as quick as it looked. For example, the polished 8/71 blower looked cool but upon closer inspection it seemed to be mounted on a truck 454 with stock heads.
My dad built an all out drag '64 Corvette, same frame. He notched in the frame rails in the rear, made a control arm and ladder bar system to support the nodular 9 inch. He has a small flare on the fenders. Coilovers support the axle and he mounted two batteries, one on each side of the fuel cell.
My dad also has a friend with a drag '77, stock body. He has a Dana 60 in the rear with coilovers supporting it. He completely remade the rear half of the frame. He also has two batteries and a fuel cell in basically the same setup as my father. He runs the factory wheel wells, just cut out a little bit, no flares. He has the back storage area lifted up about 6 inches with no compartments. Otherwise as stock of an interior as a drag car can have. Both cars have full cages. My dad's has no interior, just a dash pad.
You can fit as big of a tire as you want on the back, it all depends on how elaborate of a suspension you want to run. My dad has 14inch wide slicks, not as wide on his friends. Probably not worth it to keep the IRS.
Other then looks those tires do nothing for a car. If fact they slow it down, I have read that a set of tires like that can eat up 100 horse. You actually want the smallest tires that can do the job. They consume the least horsepower.
Those big tires do not have the traction that a small set of ET streets would have. They are really quite useless other then for looks.
In a street race I would look at some one with those tires as only for show. 2 equal horsepower car, one with those tires and one with tires just big enough to do the job. The big tire car will loose.
Based on what I have read over the years and what one of my neighbours has on his tubed 55 chevy.
Re: Pro Street C3 Corvette???!!!!! (norvalwilhelm)
I have a picture of a Pro Street C3 that I want to show but I dont know how to post pics from my computer to the wed? Anyway If you have Kazaa, go and type in Corvette in the search for images, then what will come up is a bunch of listings. Choose the one that says 1969 Custome Corvette Blown Nitrous, all that. Its Ruby Red and has chrome rims and I think its pre 1975?
Re: Pro Street C3 Corvette???!!!!! (norvalwilhelm)
Did you also notice the funny tire wear? The driver side looks a lot smoother than the passenger side. He must not be launching even or has his tire pressure wrong.
My dad runs wider slicks for traction since he is basically dumping the clutch at 10-11,000 rpm. He runs a 5.87 gear, but the tires are tall.
You can kinda see in this pic.
Norval is right, you want just enough tire to get the power to the ground. One other item comes into play, driver ability. If you haven't seen a 10.5 tire car with 1500+ hp going down a less than ideal track, your missing out. These guys are on the edge every pass. A larger tire would provide a bigger contact patch to apply the hp to the track. If you run a bigger than needed tire it gives you a cushion when the track gets slick.

Thanks for posting it, I didnt think it would go through, But right now All I see are red x's?
Also what color is that? Ruby Red? Some kind of dark red? Also seeing the rear tires, they seem to be 29's I dont think they would be larger. Plus did he chrome up the fins?
