Engine #'s decipher?

Engine #'s decipher?
OK, got a freebie engine, looking to figure out what it is. All I can get off the stamping pad on the passenger side near the water pump is:
K12 17 CKB What's that??
and off the bellhousing area:
GM 8970010 Any clue as to where this came from???

The number near the bell housing is probably 3970010, indicating that it is a Chevy 350 cubic inch engine produced between 1969 and 1980.
The other numbers don't look familiar.

Looks like it's a 350 made in St. Catherines, Ontario on December 17 some time in the early 70s. If you play around with this site http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.html you might get some more info on the engine.
